Sophie is an experienced and accredited practitioner, holding the nationally recognised
Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (DSFH). She also holds the
Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) – the gold standard sector qualification
awarded by the National Council for Hypnotherapy, with whom she is a member
(MNCH reg.), abiding by their code of conduct and ethics.

Depression
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from a mental health problem at any one
time.
Depression can leave you feeling unable to cope with negative feelings which can cause you
to put life on hold and withdraw from the outside world. Depression often starts gradually

Anger
Anger usually happens as a result of feeling frustrated, insulted, deceived or even under

potential threats, adrenaline and stress hormones are pumped around your body and you
respond by getting ready to fight or flight.

Sleep Issues/Insomnia
Sleep issues and insomnia are very common and affect 1 in 3 people in the UK.
Lack of sleep can leave you feeling tired and frustrated and this can impact your health and
effect your work performance.
Lack of sleep has been linked to increasing our risk of heart disease, high blood pressure,
weight gain and reduced immunity.
At night when we dream the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep is vital for memory

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
OCD is a condition which involves obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. It is an
anxiety disorder characterised by intrusive thoughts, uneasiness, apprehension, fear or
worry and repetitive behaviours aimed at reducing the associated anxiety.
People with OCD may recognise their obsessions and compulsions as irrational and may
become further distressed by that realisation. Symptoms are often worse during times of
stress.

Symptoms such as:-
. Unwanted thoughts or urges enter the mind repeatedly causing stress.
. Intrusive and distressing thoughts raise our anxiety and cause even more negative.
thinking, until we find ourselves in a cycle of negative thinking.
. Compulsion to carry out an action.

. Aversion to particular numbers and nervous rituals (such as opening as closing a door
certain numbers of times before leaving a room).

IBS
Since 2008, the National Insititute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has suggested
Hypnotherapy as a suitable intervention for IBS.


In February 2008 NICE, which gives guidance to the NHS on effective treatments, published
guidance for GP’s and consultants saying there was good evidence that hypnotherapy was
an effective IBS treatment and that it could be recommended for chronic IBS.

IBS affects one person in five and is the world’s most common digestive disorder.
IBS can have a significant impact on the quality of life and how it creates considerable
anxiety and stress. Symptoms such as bloating, cramping, constipation and diarrhoea, can
impact on all daily activities from relationships, work, social and travel activities.
The chemical nature of stress, worry or anxiety makes the symptoms of IBS even worse.
The good news is that hypnotherapy, has been shown to help alleviate symptoms

results in killing 7 million people each year world wide.
It also affects other people’s health, second hand smoke kills 1 million people each year.

Addictions
Mobile Phone/Social Media/Screen Addiction/Gaming/Gambling/Alcohol etc

Addiction is very common, according to the charity Action on Addiction, 1 in 3 people are
addicted to something. We most commonly associate addictions with smoking, gambling,
drugs and alcohol, but addictive behaviour can come in many forms, perhaps mobile
phones, social media, gaming addiction, working, shopping for example, and all of these
behaviours share similarities, regardless of the substance or behaviour involved.
Social media addiction can increase feelings of loneliness and depression. Social media
should be a way to enhance your social life, not replace it. Addiction to social media and
the internet is a growing problem in modern life, by looking at other people’s lives and
“comparing and despairing”. Social media is designed to be seriously addictive, research
has shown that “Likes” and “Retweets” can provide an addictive dopamine rush which leads
